Student Health and Wellness

Student mental health is a priority in Miller Creek School District, and we are taking an important step forward.

Miller Creek School District is preparing to implement the statewide Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), a first-of-its-kind effort to expand access to mental health support for students in schools across California. The CYBHI Fee Schedule Program helps schools provide covered mental health services at no cost to families while also strengthening and sustaining student wellness supports.

Family partnership is an important part of this work. Under California law, health plans and insurers are now required to reimburse public schools for certain covered mental health services provided to students at school. This allows additional funding to come directly back to schools to support student services and wellness programs.

Most importantly, state law protects families and ensures there is no negative impact on insurance coverage. This means:

  • No bills, copays, or deductibles
  • No increase to insurance premiums
  • No reduction in or impact to plan benefits
  • No effect on coverage
  • No denial of private services if the same service is also provided at school

Through this work, Miller Creek School District hopes to expand access to school-based mental health support while building long-term sustainability for student wellness services.

We are proud to partner with the Marin County Office of Education in support of this important initiative. More information will be shared with families as implementation moves forward. In the meantime, families may visit the Marin County Office of Education CYBHI webpage to learn more.
