Principal's Message

My name is Derek Lecy, and I’m honored to be entering my fourth year as Principal of Silveira. This is my 20th year in public education and my tenth as a school administrator, following six wonderful years as the Assistant Principal at Miller Creek Middle School.

There are so many things I truly love about Silveira; our amazing and dedicated staff, our fabulous parent leadership team, our countless volunteers, and our many community partners. We are also fortunate to have excellent enrichment specialists and a strong education foundation (Can Do!). And of course, the thing that binds us all together...the best students anywhere!

We are proud of our counseling and wellness program, which supports students through a tiered model of services. Academically, we are committed to strong, research-based instruction. In literacy, we focus on building foundational reading skills in our youngest learners through Fundations and developing an understanding of morphology in the upper grades. We also recognize the importance of mathematics in the lives of our young learners, and we maintain a schoolwide focus on math differentiation to meet the needs of every student.

I look forward to partnering with families, community members, and students to create a rich and engaging learning experience for your child. Our goal is to work collaboratively to ensure that each student feels a valued part of the MES community and demonstrates personal growth, academically, socially, and emotionally, during their time at Silveira.
