Perhaps our most important work this week is the middle school student led "change drive" to support Neff Elementary School in Houston. This effort gained momentum in a short time and has been supported by all leaders and teachers in the district. All "change drive" funds will be matched by Google and up to $2,500 will be matched by Artifex. I observed very engaged students in multiple grades during discussion of how these charitable donations can help the children of Houston. One of my most consistent messages to my own children is "nothing is more important than how we treat other people". Our efforts around "kindness" across the district are being reinforced by how we support, from afar, people in need. It was a big week in Dixie, with two back to school nights and academic learning accelerating, but this collective effort remains in the forefront of my mind as we head into a weekend with another hurricane bearing down on a heavily populated area.
