Each week I will try to send a Friday note summarizing a bit about my week and usually focused on a particular topic. This is one way I can stay in communication with staff, and the note will also be posted on the website for parents and community (once I figure out how to do it).
This week things got real- and I mean that in the best sense. All of that work to prepare for the year is now in full motion. Classrooms are sparkling, students are engaged, Back To School Nights are happening (thank you for kicking it off in style Miller Creek), and the positive energy is flowing. After introducing myself to nearly all students at the beginning of the week, I was able to circle back on Friday and start short observations in classrooms around the district. A few things immediately stand out:
- Our students are amazing! I love the way they work with each other and give their personal best.
- We are serious about meeting the needs of the whole child- I observed art, music, language arts, math, and SEL lessons during my drop in visits.
- Our teachers love their work and bring talent and effort every day.
- Parents are everywhere- classroom volunteers, yard volunteers, huge turnout on back to school night, etc., etc., etc.
I am very much looking forward to more observations next week as I truly get to know the daily teaching and learning in Dixie. Have a great Labor Day Weekend.
