The District has been informed that the teachers have voted and approved the salary agreement with the District. The Board will formally approve at the School Board meeting in March. At that meeting the District will submit the AB 1200 documentation that demonstrates the District’s financial ability to meet reserve requirements for the next three years.
Dixie School District and Teachers Association Settle Negotiations
After meeting in negotiations since last April, the District and Dixie Teachers Association met in a fact-finding hearing on Friday, February 3, 2017. We mutually agreed in writing to a tentative agreement over the remaining outstanding issue for 2016-17 wages.
The District and Association presented facts to a three person fact-finding panel composed of a neutral fact-finding chair and a representative of the District and of the Association. After presentation of the facts, a significant number of various proposals by each party were exchanged. After more than ten hours of mediation, we coordinated a resolution with the panel chair and signed a tentative agreement. Since a written agreement was reached, a written fact-finding report has not been issued.
While the parties tried to achieve a multi-year agreement, only a one year agreement was able to be reached. That resolution was a salary schedule increase of 2% retroactive to July 1, 2016 and was added to the other items tentatively agreed to last June between the Association and District. The salary increase is identical to that reached with the California School Employees Association for 2016-17.
The District and Association will present at public Board meetings in the Spring the initial proposals for 2017-18. The District is committed to reaching a fair and fiscally responsible resolution with the Association as we move forward.
